However, there have been a number of highly publicized accidents involving autonomous cars, which has led many to question their safety. One of the most notable accidents involving an autonomous car occurred in Miami, Florida in 2016. In this incident, a Tesla Model S sedan, operated in "Autopilot" mode, rear-ended a trailer that had crossed into its lane. The driver of the Tesla was killed, and the accident resulted in a recall of the car's Autopilot system.
